We began this musical journey in community with Queer Black Sunday School: Choir Practice in Durham, NC. I, Sangodare (Julia), wanted a way to share two technologies: 1) Collective singing as a resilience tool and 2) Reclamation of cultural practice as a resistance strategy. In particular, I was interested in holding on to the generative songs and traditions that sustained me and my ancestors for generations but that I no longer accessed through Christian Black baptist churches in the south. Step One? Learn to sing together and think about the energy we are generating with our words and life breath. Step Two? Create and share a canon of qpoc affirming congregational songs.

NOW…

As I continue to compose music I am excited to have that music played with other musicians. So we are reaching out to musicians to join us for our 3rd Sunday Services and otehr offerings to play music “live” together and via pre-recorded collaboration that allows the congregational to sing along to the track live. If you are interested please reach out to us at mobilehomecoming@gmail.com put include the word “Music” in your subject so we can find your email easily. All skill levels are welcome.

Share whatever you like AND some information that would be great to know is:

  • Your name

  • Instrument

  • How long have you been playing? and What would you say is your proficiency level?

  • Do you play by ear, read or both?

  • Where do you live?

  • Are you a pro (“play for pay") OR a communal player (“not for pay”)?

  • Do you have any Gospel or Soul music experience or repetoire?
