Clyde values education very highly. We are grateful that his impact and legacy is able to continue to support the education of his children for generations. Clyde’s youngest son is in his second year of college and his first granddaughter is in her first year of life. Your contribution to their educations and the future children in his lineage and legacy is greatly appreciated.
All proceeds from book sales will go to the Education Fund
Clyde’s book, Without Apology: In Honor of Black Women, is complete and in the final design phase. Your contribution will support it to be published and shared broadly as he intended. Without Apology is a series of poems celebrating the resilience, power and creativity of Black women. What makes these poems unique is that they are written by a Black man, but offered in the first person voice of the women depicted in the poems. Instead of praising Black women for their value to the lives of other people, these poems unapologetically assert the power of Black women in their own voices and on their own terms. For more information and to hear Clyde and Alexis being interviewed about the project visit the website for the book at http://withoutapologybook.com.
Alexis Pauline Gumbs is the co-editor of the anthology Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines (PM Press) and the author of the forthcoming book Spill: Fugitive Scenes (Duke University Press). For more about Alexis visit alexispauline.com.
Community Education Programs
Clyde self-identified as a Black Feminist and an advocate for all people to refine and grow their core values. His collaboration with his children on a nation-wide project to create educational programs that could be used in schools continues. The program is grounded in Clyde’s values and the values that his father, Jeremiah Gumbs lived and taught. Clyde wrote a book about the values he saw in his father’s life called The Seven Seeds. Your contribution will continue this work as well.
